Chariton Area Chamber/Main Street is proud to feature one of our local contributing businesses in the monthly Small Business Spotlight!

This month, we got the inside scoop

Dr. Hoadley, tell us about how you came to be at Chariton Vision Center.

After graduating with honors from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1990, I considered myself fortunate to join Dr. Everett Davis in 1994 after his retirement. I will forever cherish the many evenings spent at the Bluegrass Inn learning about Dr. Davis’ practice philosophy. Dr. Davis believed in going the extra mile for his patients. He would even personally drive a patient in need of surgery to the surgeon’s office- a testament to his dedication to providing the best eye care possible. I am thankful for the opportunity to have learned from such an exceptional and caring Optometrist, and we all strive to uphold his legacy of going above and beyond for every one of our patients.

What is your goal at Chariton Vision Center?

At our practice, our focus is on providing each patient with the highest quality care, one individual at a time. We are about to be in the top tier of healthcare providers, and we strive to maintain this level of excellence by offering top-notch services at reasonable prices. Through this approach, we are able to offer tremendous value to our patients.

I am honored to work alongside such an outstanding team here at Chariton Vision Center.  Dr. Jon Heaverlo’s dedication to the practice and the community is truly inspiring. Thanks to Dr. Heaverlo’s exceptional work and organizational skills, our practice experienced an unprecedented six-fold growth. As a result, we were compelled to relocate from our small hospital space to our new modernized location on the town square.

Dr. Jessica McCullen’s leadership, coupled with her academic achievements, makes her an invaluable asset to our team. Dr. McCullen is a native of Ottumwa, Iowa.

Dr. Matthew Rauen’s groundbreaking work in cataract surgery has distinguished him as one of the best in his field, Dr. Rauen allows our patients to have local surgery without a drive out of town.

I am grateful for the efforts of Baylee, Amber, Amanda, Alyssa, Cynthia, Melissa, Kellie, and Leigh who all exceed expectations in their duties and demonstrate boundless care and enthusiasm for our patients.

Our Senior leaders are truly exceptional. Debbie Hauge, CPOA was just awarded optometric assistant of the year for the state of Iowa.  Martha Tompkins, CPOA-ABO is a true leader and is currently Vice President of the state association. Martha will become president in 2 years. Ashley Phillips, CPOT, ABO, NCLE has continued to achieve numerous certifications as an optician and an optometric assistant. Ashley also received a Bachelor's degree while working full-time. She truly inspires all our employees. Ashley, Debbie, and Martha set a high standard for the rest of us to follow.

Dana Goldensoph, CPO has shown exceptional leadership qualities which makes her an invaluable asset to us as a location lead.

Why is  Chariton an excellent choice for your business?

Chariton boasts a charming small-town atmosphere that’s perfect for businesses, with friendly residents. I love the town’s unique blend of local shops, including the delightful bike shop, mouth-watering food, the candy shop, and the stunning beauty of Southern Iowa. We see a steady influx of new patients moving here just for these small-town comforts.

What do you think the key is to your practice's success?

We believe what is best for our patients is good for our practice and what is best for our practice is good for our patients. By putting our patients' needs first and focusing on providing excellent care, we help to build a strong and thriving practice.
