Lucas County is home to two of Iowa’s Bird Conservation Areas (BCAs). The Stephens State Forest Lucas BCA is in the western part of the county, and the Stephens State Forest Thousand Acres BCA is in the northeast part of the county.
The woodland and grassland habitat makes this a unique area to view over 180 species of local breeders and long-distance migratory birds. Our Guide to Birding Lucas County will help you locate publicly accessible prime spots for birding that are shown on this map.
